Meet Emma
I started practicing yoga regularly in 2017 after receiving a shocking cancer diagnosis right after graduating college. I was feeling lost, scared, and wholly disconnected from my body. Yoga was a tool for me to reconnect with my body, appreciate and accept the changes that were happening to it, and to move in ways that empowered me. I learned what it meant to self-regulate and truly listen to what my body and mind needed since it was so different day to day and changed over time. I have been in remission since 2018 and yoga continues to weave its way into all aspects of my life. It has been so gratifying to look back on the versions of myself as I have deepened my yoga practice. While I love being a yoga teacher, I am ALWAYS a student and love learning and growing with my community.
My favorite pose changes regularly, but right now it is Half Moon (Ardha Chandrasana). It is a challenging balancing posture, one that requires you to trust yourself to hold yourself up and find the power to stay grounded in an unstable environment. I love that there are so many variations of Half Moon, where you can give yourself as much support as you need in order to access the posture.
Come join me for Basics on Thursdays at 6:30pm! Expect that as your teacher, I am going to meet you where you are at and provide ways to move that will help you connect your breath, mind, and body. I like to encourage students to pause, feel and notice how the body feels in a way that encourages curiosity and reflection throughout the class. In Basics, we use props as a way to empower ourselves to find optimal alignment in poses because optimal alignment is going to look and feel different in every person. You know your body better than anyone else, so I give lots of options throughout class for you to decide what is best for your practice.
You can keep up with my yoga journey or reach out with questions to my instagram @emmajscott. Outside of the yoga studio, you can find me walking all over South Philly with my two dogs on a quest to find the best coffee shops and breweries :)
